Questions about Rezdiffra? Clarity starts now.
What is Rezdiffra and who should take it?
Rezdiffra is a prescribed medicine used along with diet and exercise to treat adults with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with moderate to advanced liver scarring (fibrosis), but not with cirrhosis of the liver.
This indication is approved based on improvement of MASH and liver scarring (fibrosis). There are ongoing studies to confirm the clinical benefit of Rezdiffra.
How do I know if Rezdiffra is right for me?
The first step is talking with a liver specialist. If you’re an adult over the age of 18 and have been diagnosed with MASH with moderate to advanced liver scarring, often referred to as fibrosis stage F2 or F3, Rezdiffra could be right for you.
Keep in mind, Rezdiffra is not for people with cirrhosis. If you don’t know your level of liver scarring, ask your liver specialist for a test to find out.
Can I ask my liver specialist about Rezdiffra?
You have every right to start the conversation. When it comes to your liver health, your voice matters most. Ask about getting tested for liver scarring, understanding your fibrosis stage, and exploring treatment options, including Rezdiffra.
If you’ve been diagnosed with MASH and have moderate to advanced liver scarring without cirrhosis, which is sometimes called fibrosis stage F2 or F3, talk to your liver specialist about whether Rezdiffra could be right for you.
How does Rezdiffra work?
Only Rezdiffra works directly in the liver, and it helps to reactivate liver cells to reduce liver fat.
How do I know if Rezdiffra is working?
Your liver specialist will recommend a test to check if Rezdiffra is making a difference for your liver scarring.
How do I take Rezdiffra?
Rezdiffra is a pill you take just once a day, every day, as directed by your liver specialist. You can take Rezdiffra with or without food.
Before taking Rezdiffra, tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your healthcare provider and pharmacist when you get a new medicine.
How long should I take Rezdiffra?
MASH is a chronic, serious, and progressive liver disease and everyone’s experience with Rezdiffra is different. Your liver specialist will guide how long you should continue treatment.
What are some tips for staying consistent with Rezdiffra treatment?
Take Rezdiffra every day, with or without food, for as long as your liver specialist tells you to. Here are 3 tips to help you remember to take Rezdiffra:
- Set an alarm on your phone
- Pair with a habit you already have, like brushing your teeth
- Use a daily pill box
Are there any lifestyle recommendations for managing MASH with liver scarring?
Even small changes can help support your liver health. As always, talk to your liver specialist before adjusting your routine.
- Eat well. Try to eat a healthy, balanced diet that incorporates more vegetables, beans, and legumes
- Watch your alcohol intake. Try to reduce, or even eliminate, alcohol consumption
- Get active. Just 30 minutes of activity most days of the week can help
- Be careful with supplements. Certain vitamins and minerals (like vitamin A, iron, and niacin) can hurt your liver. Ask your liver specialist before taking any supplements or herbal remedies
- Be mindful about your weight. Also remember that managing MASH is about more than the number on the scale. The real issue is toxic fat in the liver, which can trigger inflammation and scarring over time

What are the possible side effects of Rezdiffra?
Rezdiffra may cause serious side effects. Stop taking Rezdiffra and call your doctor if you develop symptoms of:
- Liver injury (hepatotoxicity): Stop taking Rezdiffra and call your healthcare provider right away if you develop the following signs or symptoms of hepatotoxicity: tiredness, nausea, vomiting, fever, rash, your skin or the white part of your eyes turns yellow (jaundice), or stomach pain/tenderness
- Gallbladder problems: Gallbladder problems such as gallstones, or inflammation of the gallbladder, or inflammation of the pancreas from gallstones can occur with MASH and may occur if you take Rezdiffra. Call your healthcare provider right away if you develop any signs or symptoms of these conditions, including nausea, vomiting, fever, or pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that is severe and will not go away. The pain may be felt going from your abdomen to your back and the pain may happen with or without vomiting
Common side effects observed in studies include diarrhea, nausea, itching, stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness, and constipation.
These are not all the possible side effects of Rezdiffra. For more information, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
How long will side effects last?
Diarrhea and nausea were the most common side effects. Both typically began early in treatment and were mild to moderate, lasting about 3 to 4 weeks.
Should these problems not resolve or should they become worse, please contact your doctor.
How do I manage side effects?
Talk to your liver specialist about any side effects you experience and how best to manage them.

What is the difference between MASH and NASH?
Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation, and premature mortality.
How fast does MASH progress?
MASH doesn’t progress at the same rate for everyone. Some people may stay in the early stages for years, while others may see faster progression—especially if they have health factors like type 2 diabetes, obesity, or high cholesterol. That’s why regular testing is important. It helps track changes in your liver over time and can help catch signs of worsening scarring early.
If you’ve been diagnosed with MASH and have moderate to advanced scarring, without cirrhosis, also called F2 or F3, talk to your liver specialist about treatment options, including Rezdiffra.
What causes fatty liver disease and MASH?
Fatty liver disease is a buildup of fat in liver cells. If it goes unmanaged, the fat can become toxic, triggering inflammation in your liver. This can lead to MASH with liver scarring (fibrosis). A liver with mild scarring is considered stage F1. Moderate to advanced scarring is stages F2-F3.
Does MASH affect the Latino community?
Yes. Studies show that Latino adults are more likely to develop MASH. One study that looked at results from several smaller studies found that, compared to other groups, Latinos have a 50% higher risk of MASLD and a 42% higher risk of MASH. They may also be more likely to experience more severe liver scarring. This may be due in part to genetics, higher rates of type 2 diabetes, and other health factors.
If you're Latino and have associated conditions like type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, or high cholesterol, talk to your doctor about getting tested for liver scarring—even if you feel fine. This doctor discussion guide can help you prepare to request a test for liver scarring. Early testing and treatment can make a meaningful difference.
How is MASH diagnosed?
MASH is often silent, which means you may not feel any symptoms. That’s why diagnosis usually starts with a discussion about your associated conditions—like type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, or high cholesterol.
Your liver specialist may order blood tests (like FIB-4 or ELF), imaging tests (like FibroScan® or MRI), or, in some cases, a liver biopsy to check for inflammation and scarring. These tests help determine whether fat in your liver has become toxic and whether scarring (fibrosis) is present—and if so, how advanced it is.
What can happen if my fatty liver disease or MASH is left unmanaged?
Over time, MASH can cause liver scarring—also called fibrosis—which can get worse if not addressed. Scarring is measured in stages, from F0 (no scarring) to F4 (severe scarring or cirrhosis). People with moderate to advanced liver scarring, which also is called F2 or F3, are at greater risk of progressing to cirrhosis.
The good news? You can take action. Ask your liver specialist about getting tested for liver scarring. If testing shows you have moderate to advanced liver scarring (F2 or F3) without cirrhosis, Rezdiffra may be right for you.
What are symptoms of MASH with liver scarring?
MASH is often a silent disease—many people do not feel symptoms or do not know they have it. That’s why a test for liver scarring is so important.
Some people may experience symptoms such as:
- An ache in your upper right abdomen, where your liver is
- Weakness and fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Unexplained weight loss
How do I know if I have MASH with liver scarring?
The only way to know if you have MASH with liver scarring is to get a test for liver scarring.
How often should I get my liver checked for scarring?
If you’ve been diagnosed with MASH with liver scarring, regular monitoring is important, especially if you have other health factors like type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, or obesity. Your liver specialist may recommend regular liver testing to check if the scarring has progressed.
If you’re taking Rezdiffra, your liver specialist may suggest getting your liver tested every 3 to 6 months to monitor your liver health status.
Don’t hesitate to ask about getting your liver tested for scarring at your appointments, or whether Rezdiffra could help reduce liver fat and scarring.
Which tests can I get to check the scarring in my liver?
Your liver specialist may recommend one or a combination of the following tests:
- Blood-based tests such as FIB-4, ELF, or ALT/AST. ALT and AST are blood tests that help check for liver damage. FIB-4 and ELF are other blood tests that help show how much scarring is in the liver and how likely the disease is to get worse over time
- Imaging tests such as FibroScan®, MRI, or ultrasound are also noninvasive liver tests. They can help measure fat and/or liver stiffness and scarring
- Liver biopsy may be necessary to give your liver specialist a clear result. In a biopsy, a small sample of liver tissue is taken and examined in a lab to look for signs of inflammation and scarring
Ask your liver specialist which option is best for you.
FIB-4=Fibrosis-4; ELF=Enhanced Liver Fibrosis; ALT=alanine transaminase; AST=aspartate transferase.
Do my liver enzyme levels help show my level of scarring?
A liver enzyme test alone cannot diagnose your stage or level of scarring. Additional tests may be needed depending on your health history and results. Talk to your liver specialist about which tests are right for you.
What should I do after receiving liver scarring test results?
Once you get your results, schedule a follow-up with your liver specialist to discuss next steps. If your test shows moderate to advanced scarring, sometimes called F2 or F3, ask if Rezdiffra could be part of your treatment plan. It’s the first FDA-approved treatment for MASH with moderate to advanced liver scarring, without cirrhosis.
